12%### Nitrogen (N)

Ammonium form (NH₄⁺), less susceptible to leaching.

+ 26%### Sulfur (S)

Thiosulfate (S₂O₃²⁻) form for dual-stage release (65% SO₃ eq).

  ## The Thiosulfate Transformation

After application, Ammonium Thiosulfate (ATS) transforms into two powerful forms of sulfur:

- Sulfate Sulfur (SO₄²⁻)

Readily available for immediate plant uptake.
- Elemental Sulfur (S⁰)

Gradually oxidizes over time, acting as a slow-release reserve throughout the season.

### Inhibitor Effect

Products formed during thiosulfate oxidation temporarily slow down processes responsible for nitrogen losses (nitrification and urea hydrolysis). This reduces nitrate leaching and gaseous losses, effectively stabilizing your nitrogen investment.

    ### Improved N Efficiency

Reduces nitrogen losses and prolongs **availability** in the root zone.

### Sulfur Supply Throughout Vegetation

Provides both fast-acting and delayed sulfur availability through the natural decomposition of ATS.

### Excellent UAN Compatibility

Enables virtually any liquid UAN or urea mixing strategy for seamless integration.

### Flexible Application

Suitable for soil injection, top-dressing, foliar feeding, and crop residue management.

### Improved Crop Quality

Supports protein synthesis, increases oil content, and enhances micronutrient uptake.

### Reduced Nitrogen Emissions

Minimizes gaseous ammonia volatilization and nitrogen leaching losses for more sustainable farming.

   ### Soil Application & Fertigation

Improves early plant growth and performs exceptionally well in alkaline/saline soils. Typical rates range from 50–250 l / ha depending on crop.

### Crop Residue Management

Accelerates straw decomposition by optimizing the C:S and C:N ratios, providing energy for microbial breakdown while securing autumn sulfur.

### Blends with UAN

Under sulfur deficiency conditions, increasing nitrogen application rates becomes less effective and economically unjustified.

What is STERCOSUL®? STERCOSUL® is a liquid sulfur-nitrogen fertilizer based on ATS (Ammonium Thiosulfate). The product supplies nitrogen in ammonium form and sulfur in thiosulfate form, supporting efficient nutrient utilization and healthy crop development.

What is STERCOSUL® made of? STERCOSUL® contains high-quality ammonium thiosulfate and consists of:

12 wt % total nitrogen (N)

26 wt % sulfur (S)

More than 53 wt % ammonium thiosulfate

Does STERCOSUL® contain ammonium thiosulfate? Yes. Ammonium thiosulfate is the primary component of the product and is responsible for supplying both nitrogen and sulfur in a form that provides extended availability in the soil.

Is STERCOSUL® an ammonium sulfate solution? No. Ammonium thiosulfate and ammonium sulfate are entirely different chemical compounds. Ammonium thiosulfate exhibits different behavior in the soil, provides a more gradual sulfur release, and directly contributes to reducing nitrogen losses.

How does the ammonium thiosulfate in STERCOSUL® work? After soil application, thiosulfate is gradually converted into sulfate, which is the form directly absorbed by plants. This process ensures a longer-lasting sulfur supply and reduces the risk of nutrient leaching. During this transformation, nitrification may also be temporarily slowed, which improves nitrogen use efficiency and extends nitrogen availability to crops.

Is STERCOSUL® an inhibitor? STERCOSUL® research indicates that ammonium thiosulfate may exhibit effects similar to urease and nitrification inhibitors under certain application conditions, helping to reduce nitrogen losses in the soil.

Does STERCOSUL® affect the availability of other nutrients? Yes. STERCOSUL® can positively influence the availability and uptake of several critical nutrients in the soil, including:

Phosphorus (P)

Zinc (Zn)

Manganese (Mn)

Iron (Fe)

Copper (Cu)

Why is sulfur important for crops? Sulfur is essential for the synthesis of proteins, enzymes, and chlorophyll. It plays a key role in efficient nitrogen utilization. Even high nitrogen fertilization rates may not achieve optimal yields when sulfur is deficient in the soil.

Which crops is STERCOSUL® recommended for? STERCOSUL® can be used in virtually all agricultural and horticultural crops. It is particularly recommended for crops with high sulfur requirements, including:

Oilseed rape (canola)

Cereals (wheat, barley, rye)

Maize (corn)

Sugar beets

Potatoes

Vegetables (onions, garlic, tomatoes, peppers)

How should STERCOSUL® be applied? STERCOSUL® is primarily intended for soil application. It can be applied alone or mixed with liquid nitrogen fertilizers, including UAN solutions and urea solutions. The product is also suitable for fertigation systems following specific crop recommendations.

Can STERCOSUL® be applied as a foliar fertilizer? Foliar application of STERCOSUL® is possible but is recommended only under the supervision of an agronomist due to the risk of leaf injury and phytotoxicity. Supplementary foliar applications should be carefully managed based on the specific crop's vegetative development.

Is STERCOSUL® suitable for fertigation? Yes. STERCOSUL® is fully soluble and can be used in fertigation systems, ensuring an efficient and highly targeted supply of sulfur and nitrogen directly to the root zone.

What application rates should be used? Application rates should be determined based on the crop's nutrient requirements, target yield, soil sulfur availability, and application method. Detailed recommendations should be adjusted to suit your specific crops and local growing conditions.

Can STERCOSUL® be mixed with water? Yes. The product can be diluted with water and easily used in liquid fertilizer blends prepared with water.

Can STERCOSUL® be mixed with other fertilizers? Yes. STERCOSUL® is highly compatible with neutral and alkaline fertilizers, particularly:

UAN (Urea Ammonium Nitrate) solutions

Urea solutions

Many liquid fertilizers

Note: A compatibility (jar) test is always recommended before preparing any new large-scale fertilizer blend.

How much STERCOSUL® can be mixed with UAN? STERCOSUL® can be mixed with UAN over a wide range of ratios, making it easy to enrich nitrogen fertilization programs with significant amounts of sulfur. For example, a properly formulated blend of STERCOSUL® and UAN 32 can contain approximately 27% nitrogen and 6% sulfur (N:S ratio optimized for cereal crops).

Can STERCOSUL® be applied together with crop protection products? The combined tank-mixing of STERCOSUL® and crop protection products (pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides) is not generally recommended unless specific compatibility has been physically verified beforehand.

Under what weather conditions should STERCOSUL® be applied? The best results are achieved when the product is applied under moderate temperatures and conditions that minimize rapid evaporation of the liquid solution. Typically, the standard periods for spring nitrogen fertilization are highly suitable for STERCOSUL® application.

Are there any legal restrictions to keep in mind? As STERCOSUL® contains nitrogen alongside sulfur, please check your local environmental regulations regarding seasonal nitrogen fertilization restrictions, closed periods, and application limits.
